Gilas Pilipinas to take on France in FIBA Olympic Qualifier campaign opener. The Philippine national men’s basketball team will be getting a tough first test in the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament as Gilas Pilipinas takes on powerhouse France in the opener.
The tournament will start on July 5, Tuesday, at the Mall of Asia Arena, with the Gilas Pilipinas-France Group B matchup headlining the opening day. Turkey and Canada will also meet in their Group A tiff in the first game.
The day after, Gilas Pilipinas will next play New Zealand after the Canada-Senegal game.
Just in case they advance to the knockout stages, the Filipinos will take a break on July 7, which features Senegal versus Turkey and New Zealand versus France, and July 8, the tournament’s rest day, before plunging back to action on July 9 for the semifinals and July 10 for the finals.
Only the champion team punches the elusive ticket to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
